One of the methods of pipe insulation, which is used extremely rarely, is the method of multilayer pipe insulation. It is used when, for example, a pipe insulation thickness of 45 mm is needed, and the manufacturer has a maximum pipe insulation thickness of 32 mm.

The inner diameter of the second (outer) tube should be selected according to the maximum outer diameter of the first (inner) tube.
If the outer diameter of the first layer of thermal insulation is large enough, we recommend using sheet material as the second layer, since it can be cut exactly under the outer diameter of the first layer.
Usually, pipe insulation with sheet material is possible with an external pipe diameter of 89 mm. Choose the thickness of the insulation layer according to the outer diameter of the pipe.
!!Note: the ends of the tubes or sheets of the second layer should always be glued to the first layer of the material. If there is a risk that the insulation of the upper layer may sag under the pipe, it must be completely glued to the lower layer. When the pipe diameter is more than 600 mm, both layers of thermal insulation material must be glued over the entire surface. To prevent the formation of corrosion under the insulation, it is also recommended to apply the adhesive completely on all surfaces.

In the case of multi-layer insulation, the first layer must be completely glued to the insulated surface. The second layer is also glued to the previous layer of material.
When isolating the underside of flat objects, it is necessary to glue all surfaces of all layers and the upper vertical sides. As a rule, the transverse and longitudinal seams of the second layer should be offset relative to the seams of the first layer
The essence of this method is easy, you just need to do a couple of mathematical steps and perform the installation correctly. If you follow the instructions, you will have no problems with the installation of insulation.
