Duroplast or thermoplastics? Which cover to choose

The modern market offers a lot of materials from which various household items are made, including toilet covers. Perhaps the most common at the moment are duroplast and thermoplastics. What is the difference between these products and which one to give preference to — and it will be discussed.

Thermoplastics

Thermoplastics is an artificial material, one of the types of plastic. Toilet covers made of thermoplastics are cheaper than from duroplast and this is due to a simpler technology of its production. To the touch, the thermoplastic is smooth, a little slippery. In most cases, toilet covers are made of impact-resistant plastic, which ensures a sufficient service life and resistance to mechanical damage. A huge plus is that the material retains the optimal temperature, which at the moment when the heating is not turned on in the apartment, but it is already cold, becomes quite an important factor.

The care of thermoplastics covers is quite simple. They are easy to clean by standard means, without the use of aggressive chemicals. The disadvantages include the fact that it is not worth using aggressive substances when washing such covers, they damage the coating. During the time it is possible to burn out a bright white color, it acquires an untidy yellow hue. Also, the material is afraid of abrasives — it will not work to clean such a lid with a brush, a metal brush or other scratching objects. The low price, however, allows you to change the thermoplastic covers for new ones quite often, which generally eliminates all the disadvantages.

Duroplast

Duroplast, in turn, resembles ceramics, it is heavier and stronger than ordinary plastic. Such a lid looks better than traditional plastic, and it feels like porcelain or something similar.

The material is not afraid of the effects of aggressive substances - acids, alkalis and other chemicals, which makes it preferable to thermoplastics. Also, the material is resistant to temperature. Those notorious heated covers are made of duroplast.

The special molecular structure of the substance makes it possible to cover duroplast products with special antibacterial coatings, which significantly increases the hygiene of this item. Bacteria are not able to multiply on such covers, which significantly reduces the risks of bacterial diseases as a result of contact with pathogenic flora.

What to choose: thermoplastics or duroplastics

Both materials are produced in any color, and you can choose the design of the bathroom to your liking. As for the performance characteristics, each of the materials justifies its cost. Thermoplastic is a short-lived, but inexpensive material, and the cover can be changed from it quite often.

Duroplast is more expensive, but more durable. Once you buy such a lid, you will forget about the issues of choosing a new one for several years, and maybe more. To increase the service life of duroplastic products, it is recommended to provide a microlift function, which automatically raises and lowers the lid, does it smoothly, without additional loads.
